Frequently asked questions
What is an ISP?
ISP, Internet Service Provider, is the entity that provides the internet service. The largest such entity in South Africa is Vumatel, followed, in not particular order, by Open Serve, RSA Web, Herotel, Afrihost, etc.
What are the risks?
Upfront costs might become quite expensive to mitigate the possibilities of vandalism and network coverage
What happens if the network gets damaged?
If the fibre network is damaged on your property, it will not affect other parties on the network. The repairs will be for your own account.
If the central fibre network is damaged, the ISP will be subject to a mandate or Service Level Agreement to execute repairs within an agreed timeframe.
Frequently asked questions
WHen will it be fnished?
What happens with parties who were not part of the initial investment?
How much will it cost?
The aim is for latest April 2024. It depends on the complexity of the engineering works and the funding model.
This remains a problem that will be addressed in the funding proposal. Most likely, the new party will be charged the same initial connection fees, with the original clients benefiting from either a kickback or lessened monthly fees.
The initial connection fee is yet to be determined. It will be available on a per-case basis once the engineering plans have been completed.
The monthly fees should be similar to other internet services in our area. Keep in mind, that we are in an outlying area with different economies of scale compared to urban center's.
